Jeff Bezos worked at McDonald’s…

Hi everyone,

I just read a CNBC article by Ali Montag, and felt compelled to share it with you. It’s titled, “Jeff Bezos worked at McDonald’s when he was 16 — here’s what he learned.”

Upon reading that article, I was reminded of my days at the Starbucks Coffee Company. They provided me a great foundation; I continue to utilize and build upon the customer service skills that I developed at Starbucks. You can read about my experience here. (*If you’re reading this post within days of its publication, you’ll note that my experience was vastly different than the controversy Starbucks is currently facing. When I was employed at Starbucks, my team and I would not have accepted racism in our stores. I wish the best to the two men singled out at that location in Philadelphia. If you have no idea what I am referring to, please read this article.)

I wonder if customer service skills are better taught by extremely successful corporations like McDonald’s and Starbucks, rather than small, independent companies?

It’s true that jobs in any industry teach people a variety of skills, and (in my opinion) negative experiences can be just as influential in furthering one’s career in the long run.

I’ll likely come back to this topic in the future, but if you have any thoughts on the matter, please feel free to comment below.
